W.Bro. Sankar Krishnan

Lodge Trivandrum No. 168

Bro. Sankar Krishnan was born on 1st November 1967 to Dr S Krishnan, Professor of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, Trivandrum and Smt. P Radhamani, Professor of Physics at All Saints College, Trivandrum. He had his primary schooling in Guyana (South America); where his father was posted temporarily. He completed his secondary schooling at Loyola School, Trivandrum.

A Mensa member and a National Talent scholar, he holds a B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Kerala, finishing college first, and University third rank across all branches. Bro Sankar also holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, one of the premier management institutes in the world, graduating in the top 5 of his class.

 

Bro. Sankar Krishnan was Initiated into Freemasonry on 21st April 2007, Passed on 20th October 2007 and Raised on the 15th December 2007. He has served Lodge Trivandrum no 168 in many Offices starting from Steward; he is a also a founder member of Lodge Sabaridesam no 374. Bro Sankar is also a member of Mark and RAM Lodge Thiruvananthapuram No 82 and founder member of the Mark Lodge Trivandrum No125.

Sankar is a former partner of McKinsey & Company, who led McKinsey's healthcare practice, initially in India, and then in Greater China. At McKinsey, in addition to serving clients, Sankar was the global Dean of the key leadership development program for consultants and the head of the recruiting team for McKinsey’s India office from 1998 to 2004.
Sankar was selected by Business Today magazine in 2001 as one of the Top 25 leading young achievers in India.

Sankar met Divya Bhalla (from Kolkata) at IIM-Ahmedabad back in 1990. They got married after the completion of their course in 1992. Sankar joined McKinsey, while Divya joined the State Bank of India Mutual Fund (SBI MF) in Mumbai. After the birth of their daughter Nayanika, and after 14 years in the corporate world in Mumbai, Tel Aviv and Hong Kong, they both moved out of the corporate world and moved back to Trivandrum in 2006.

Sankar and Divya set up Tesseract Consulting to provide strategic advice, help build leadership and organizational capabilities, and help social ventures, NGOs and public sector enterprises achieve growth and impact, usually on a pro bono basis. Their recent client work includes working with a global foundation to assess the impact of their programs in India for AIDS prevention and develop an organizational model for the future. They are also strategic advisors to a well-respected Indian non-profit institution for the hearing-impaired to develop its growth path and enhance effectiveness of delivery. Sankar and Divya are also consultants for a leading private university in the US, and design social work projects in India for its students.  
Sankar continues to help global clients develop top team effectiveness and serves on the advisory boards of several fast growing companies in the healthcare and technology sectors.

Sankar and Divya’s move to pursue their passion in the development sector was a lead feature in The Hindu (August 2011). They were part of the ‘Diehard romantics’ covered in India Today magazine’s lead story for their work in the non-profit sector.

Their daughter Nayanika is in the 12th grade in Chennai Public School; she hopes to be a scientist and a science writer some day.
